COIMBATORE: Crocodile Products Private Limited (CPPL) will open its first company-owned outlet in Kochi in January and plans to go in for five more in a couple of months (two in Delhi, two in Hyderabad and one in Bangalore). According to P. Sundar Rajan, Managing Director of S. P. Apparels, the company acquired 60.14 per cent stake in CPPL in May this year and since then it has brought about a complete revamp of Crocodile from packaging and labelling to product range. The products now have a "youthful look." He says, "We are carefully transforming the shops to cater to all age groups." The company has established a design studio with the personnel trained in the U.K. The stocks are all new and during the last nine months, after the revamp, it has registered sales of Rs. 8 crore (Crocodile Products alone). The focus now is on new regions, mostly in the North. "The challenge is to create a brand pride among customers," he said. S. P. Apparels is also looking at bringing out its own brand of children and women wear. The company, which plans an investment of Rs. 360 crore during the next two years for its expansion projects, has appointed two lead managers as it proposes to go in for an initial public offering next year. The expansion will be in spinning, processing, energy, sewing and retailing. This year, the company is confident of crossing Rs. 250-crore turnover (the whole of S. P. Apparels which is into exports also), including retail sales.
