NIZAMABAD: District secretary of the Indian Red Cross Society N. Ramchander has called upon college-going girl students to come forward to spread the Red Cross spirit among people. He said that the credit for the formation of the society goes to women as they were in forefront in providing treatment to the maimed soldiers and people during the Solephirhino battlefield in 1857. He was addressing an NSS camp organised by the Women's College students at Yanampally on Tuesday. Dr. Ramchander said a plan was afoot to spread the activities of the Red Cross all over the district. Women and girls need to play a pivotal role in this mission, he said. College NSS division coordinator Ms. Vasundhara said that only when girls mingle with rural people can they understand the socio-economic conditions in villages. Every student could pave way for their better future by joining Red Cross, she said.Village Sarpanch Ramchander Goud, executive members of the Red Cross Society Vinaykumar Gupta and M. Ramchander Rao were present.
