J&K defends shifting of antique treasure

Staff Reporter

Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has contested the protest of a few political groups against the shifting of antiques of the Dogra rulers from the Mubarak Mandi complex here to the Civil Secretariat.

On Monday, the BJP, Shiv Sena and Dogra Liberation Front (DLF) activists staged a protest against the shifting of the antiques.

"Belongs to State"

Talking to reporters here on Tuesday, Minister for Roads and Buildings Gulchain Singh Charak clarified that the precious treasure of Toshakhana Mubarak Mandi belongs to the State and not to any individual or any family.

For maintenance

He said that the State Government was conscious of its proper protection and its shifting from the fire-damaged complex of Mubarak Mandi to the strong room of the Secretariat was for its proper maintenance.

He said all the items were properly documented and any individual of the State can get details of any item from the Government.

Mr. Charak said the antiques would be transferred back to the Mubarak Mandi complex after a protected structure of Toshakhana is completed.
