Centre keen on developing rural areas: MP

Special Correspondent

Srikakulam: Congress MP from Bobbili B. Jhansi Lakshmi on Tuesday said that she would request the Centre to bring Srikakulam district under the purview of National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme and see that employment was assured to poor people at least 100 days in a year.

On a thanks-giving visit to Etcherla Assembly segment which formed part of Bobbili Lok Sabha seat, Ms. Jhansi Lakshmi said that Vizianagaram district, which was covered under the NREGS, and Srikakulam district faced the same problem of migration of labour and hence there was need to include the latter under the scheme.

Speaking to mediapersons at Chilakapalem, she said that the Centre was keen to develop rural areas and had chalked out many schemes for the rural people. The objective of State Government's Indiramma programme was also to develop villages, she said. She wanted Congress workers to explain to rural people various schemes meant for them.
