5-hour power cut imposed

Minister blames TDP for the crisis

Srikakulam: A five-hour power cut in three phases for the municipalities of Srikakulam, Amadalavalasa and Ichchapuram and Palasa has been announced.

There will be power shutdown from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m., 12 noon to 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. for one group covering Official Colony, G.T. Road, ZP area, Collector's bungalow road, Housing Board Colony, Chinnabazar, DCCB Colony and Visakha `A' and `B' colonies.

For the other groups covering Palakonada Road, RTC Complex, Balaga Bankers' Colony, Kotta Road etc., it will be from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

In the municipalities of Amadalavalasa and Ichchapuram, the supply would switched off from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. In Palasa municipal area, power cut would be imposed from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. There is already a six-hour power cut in rural areas.

Staff Reporter in Rajahmundry writes: The Eastern Power Distribution Company of AP Limited officially announced power cut schedule on Tuesday, which would come into effect immediately in East Godavari district.

Addressing a press conference, J. Syamala Rao, Superintendent Engineer of AP Transco, said that there would be three different schedules of load relief in each town and the total power cut would be five hours.

In Rajahmundry, power would not be available from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m., 12 noon to 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the areas of RTC bus stand, housing board, AVP Road, Stadium road, Innespeta, Tadithota. Power would not be there from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the areas of Railway Station, Alkot Gardens, Kotipalli Bus Stand, Syamala Centre, Gouthami Ghat, Adarsh Nagar and Bommuru. Power cut would be imposed from 10 p.m. to 12 p.m., 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the areas of Papermill, Sriram Nagar, Lalitha Nagar, Veerabhadrapuram, Katheru, Devichowk, Arts College, Central Jail, Vidyanagar, Jampeta, Prakash Nagar, Danavaipeta, Quarry Area Kotagumam and Main Road in Rajahmundry town.

`Consumption up'

Correspondent in Vizianagaram writes: Minister for Marketing B. Satyanarayana has said that steps are being taken to streamline power distribution for agriculture.

Stating that power consumption had increased in Vizianagaram and West Godavari districts, the Minister, who is also in-charge for West Godavari district, said at a press conference on Tuesday that power would be supplied without any interruption for seven hours in two spells from 4 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in West Godavari district and in three spells from 4 a.m. to 11 a.m., 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. in Vizianagaram district.

He said that power cuts would be imposed for three hours during rabi season for industries and domestic consumers in mandal headquarters and municipalities. He criticised the TDP for the present power crisis and said that not an additional MW of power was generated during its nine-year-rule. The power project agreements entered into with private agencies were "shady," he alleged.
