KOLLAM: A report on the progress of the tsunami rehabilitation programme was presented at a function organised in Alapad to commemorate the second death anniversary of those killed in the tsunami. It was noted that voluntary organisations had completed the construction of 2,781 houses for the victims in Alapad. These organisations had taken up the construction of 2,949 houses. Issues pertaining to the construction of the remaining 168 houses have been taken up at the Government level and are expected to be settled shortly. The construction of the 168 houses was taken up by a single voluntary organisation. All the projects announced for the tsumani victims at the first anniversary function of the tsunami devastation have been implemented, the report said. Measures for purchasing land to construct an old age home at Alapad was progressing. The home will be constructed at a cost of Rs.45 lakh.
