Classical and modern mix at Bidar Utsav

Kumaraswamy to inaugurate the utsav at Bidar Fort today


  • Entry to the three-day cultural festival is free
  • Seating arrangements have been made for over 5,000 people

    BIDAR: The three-day Bidar Utsav, which will begin on Wednesday, will include a variety of programmes, including folk, classical and contemporary music performances.

    Artistes from Bidar and other districts and States too are expected to participate in the utsav.

    Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy will inaugurate the utsav at the Bidar Fort on Wednesday morning.

    Skilled air warriors of the Indian Air Force's Surya Kiran team will perform aerial acrobatics at the inaugural function.

    Performances by Panchakshari Gawai Sangha and Dakshina Karavali Kannada Sangha members, and by folk artistes from Aurad will follow.

    Classical dance

    Artistes Vaijayanti Kashi and Shashidar Kote and team will then present classical dance performances, which will be followed by a jugalbandi performance by Shantling Desai and Rajendra Singh Pawar.

    There will also be song and dance performances by teams from Mangalore, "ghoomar" by a team from Haryana, "bhangra" by a team from Punjab and variety performances by actor Vijay Raghavendra and team.

    The other programmes include folk dances by teams from Bidar and Bhalki, "antakshari" and dances by Surabhi Parivar artistes and "Kunta Kunta Kuravatti" — a comedy act by Mohan Matti and team.

    Lit up

    The fort will be lit up during the festival. A huge 2,400-square-foot stone-and-concrete stage has been set up behind the Solah Kamba Masjid inside the fort. Entry to the utsav is free and seating arrangements have been made for over 5,000 people at the venue.

    Other features at the festival include over 70 exhibition-cum-sale stalls at the venue, packaged tours to historic and religious places in the city by the North East Karnataka Transport Corporation, and pre-paid auto rickshaws from Bidar Fort to other parts of the city.
