Bidar: A statue of the former seer of the Bhalki Hire Math and leader of the Karnataka unification movement Sri Channabasava Pattaddevaru was unveiled in Kamal Nagar in Aurad taluk on Monday. Sri Mahant Appagal of Ilkal unveiled the statue. He described the late seer as one who preached what he practiced. He led a movement against blind belief, tradition and the evils of the caste system. "We need to inculcate his ideals," he said. Writer Indumati Salimath urged people to take up the study of Vachana literature. Writer G.B. Visaji, Mate Maitradevi of Nidvancha, Basavalinga Pattaddevaru of Bhalki Hire Math and others were present.
