RELAY FAST: Members of the KPTCL Industrial Training Institute Students' Association protesting in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office in Gulbarga on Tuesday.
GULBARGA: Members of the KPTCL Industrial Training Institute Students' Association and the All-India Students' Federation (AISF) on Tuesday launched an indefinite relay fast in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office demanding 50 per cent reservation in recruitment to different posts in the KPTCL and the electricity supply companies in the State. The protesting students and members of the AISF, led by its district president Mallanagouda Biradar and Suresh M. Dhule, president of the students association, came in a procession and shouted slogans against the Government for going back on an earlier decision to give reservation to the trained students of the ITC during recruitment. In a memorandum addressed to Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and submitted to Deputy Commissioner Pankajkumar Pandey, the students demanded that status quo be maintained in the recruitment to different posts undertaken by the KPTCL and the electricity companies. The memorandum said that the previous Dharam Singh government had taken a decision to provide reservation in the recruitment in the KPTCL and Electricity Supply Companies to trained students of the ITC and as many as 2,355 students were recruited earlier. The memorandum alleged that the present Government had withdrawn the previous order of giving 33 per cent reservation for ITC students in recruitments in the KPTCL and ESCOMs. The memorandum said every year the four ITCs run by the KPTCL in Bangalore, Mangalore, Hubli and Gulbarga produced 400 trained students in different trades and first preference should be given in the recruitment for the trained students of the ITC. Mr. Biradar said they would be forced to launch an indefinite fast from December 29.
