VIJAYAWADA : Krishna district in-charge Minister J. C. Diwakar Reddy has urged Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) from Krishna district to act magnanimously and share generously part of their wealth with their motherland.

Addressing an open discussion on development of Krishna district - Vikas Krishna — with representatives of Telugu Association of North America (TANA) here on Tuesday, the Panchayat Raj Minister said there was no harm in migrating from one's place of birth in search of greener pastures. But, one must never forget his native land and its well-being.

    Investments

Mr. Reddy said though the district had abundant resources, it was unable to compete with other regions. "We want you to invest in projects here to set the ball of development rolling," he said. The Minister asked Zilla Parishad chairman K. Nageswara Rao to identify areas of development, prepare action plans and hand them over to NRIs. Minister for Higher Education Pinnamaneni Venkateswara Rao listed out the programmes launched by the Government to improve the education scenario. He wanted NRIs to identify loopholes in any area and make suggestions on how to plug them. Citing shortage of doctors in hospitals in rural areas, he said TANA could think of distributing medical equipment in primary health centres.

    `Identify your role'

Minister for Municipal Administration Koneru Ranga Rao exhorted the NRIs to play active role in poverty alleviation. "Government has introduced many schemes. Identify your role in their implementation and donate liberally," he said. Mr. Rao pointed out that Government was working on an ambitious plan to convert Andhra Pradesh into a model State. "It is for you to make this dream financially viable," he said.

TANA president Bandla Hanumaiah said people of Krishna district had infused life into the association, as a majority of its members were natives of this district. He suggested that officials in the district prepare a strategy plan. Krishna Zilla Parishad chairman K. Nageswara Rao presided while Collector Navin Mittal, Mayor Mallika Begum and others were present.
