HYDERABAD: The CPI (Marxist) State committee has asked the Government to make public the report submitted by the high-level Land Committee as it contains "progressive" recommendations in the interest of people. The CPI(M) has also asked Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy to make a statement on the report of the committee, headed by Municipal Administration Minister Koneru Ranga Rao, outlining its recommendations. "Though the committee submitted its report a year ago, the Government is maintaining secrecy giving rise to doubts about its commitment to implementing the report," CPI(M) State secretary B.V. Raghavulu has said. Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, he wanted the Government set up an independent commission to monitor land related issues besides creating a Department to oversee land distribution. He criticised the Chief Minister for announcing that the Government would take some important decisions during the meeting of the land committee on December 28. He said not holding of public debate on the recommendations was giving rise to doubts that key suggestions would be diluted. Moreover, the recent amendments to the AP Land Reforms (Ceiling on Agricultural Lands) Act were in contravention to the committee's recommendations.
