POWER POLITICS: The police removing BJP activists who staged a sit-in near Power Minister Mohammed Ali Shabbir's house in Hyderabad on Tuesday. They were demanding nine-hour uninterrupted power supply to farmers.
HYDERABAD: BJP workers, led by floor leader in Assembly G. Kishen Reddy, staged a `dharna' in front of Power Minister Mohammed Ali Shabbir's residence at Ministers Colony in Banjara Hills here on Tuesday. Shouting slogans against the Government, they protested against the poor power supply to the farm sector. The police swung into action, removed Mr. Reddy and others forcibly from the place and arrested them and released them later. Mr. Kishen Reddy sustained a back injury while he was being taken into custody by police and was shifted to Medwin Hospital for treatment. BJP State president Bandaru Dattatreya, who called on his party MLA at the hospital, later denounced what he called `police brutality'. In a statement, K. Bal Reddy, former president of the BJP State Kisan Morcha, condemned the police action in shifting peaceful protesters. It exposed the Government's repressive measures and anti- farmer stand, he added.
