Quake rocks Taiwan
TAIPEI: Japan's Meteorological Bureau on Tuesday said a one-metre-high tsunami triggered by a powerful quake off Taiwan was headed toward the east coast of he Philippines.
There is a possibility of a destructive local tsunami," the bureau said, saying waves were expected to hit Basco in the Philippines.
Taiwan's Central Weather Bureau said the quake struck at about 8:34 pm (1804 IST) and measured magnitude 6.7, while the US Geological Survey put it at magnitue 7.1.
A manitude 6.4 aftershock struck later off southwestern Taiwan, the Taiwanese bureau said.
No damage or injuries were immedately reported. - AP
