Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Petroleum Traders Association (UPPTA) is on an indefinite strike from Tuesday over a demand for a reduction in sales tax on both diesel and petrol. The association has demanded that the tax on diesel and petrol should be reduced to 11 and 20 per cent respectively, as fuel sales at pumps are going down. Owing to the low taxes in Delhi, Haryana, Uttaranchal and Punjab, Uttar Pradesh is experiencing a decline in diesel sales. There are around 3700 petroleum dealers. Thirty-five petroleum trading outlets in the State are owned by the public sector oil companies. The Reliance Group owns over 20 petroleum outlets. --ANI
