Gangster shot dead

Kanpur: An alleged member of the Ram Kishan gang was shot dead by police in Naubasta area late last night, a senior police official said on Tuesday.

Tarun Loola, who was carrying cash reward of Rs 2,500 on his head and wanted in connection with about 20 cases of murder and robbery, was killed in an encounter soon after he snatched the money from an employee of a car dealer.

Senior Superintendent of Police Alok Singh said Loola was intercepted after Sanjay Trivedi, owner of a car mart, informed the police that his employee who was robbed off Rs 20,000 by three motorcycle-borne persons near the Reserve Bank Colony here.

The trio opened fire at the police party when intercepted and in the ensuing gunbattle Loola was killed. Two of his accomplices managed to flee from the scene, Singh said.

Two police constables were injured in the firing.

Three country-made pistols were recovered from the spot. -- PTI
