Congress MLA from Rajpura joins BJP

Khurana would be BJP's star campaigner: Arun Jaitley

Jalandhar: Sitting Punjab Congress MLA Raj Kumar Khurana on Tuesday resigned from the party and the Assembly and joined BJP protesting what he said the highhanded attitude of Chief Minister Amarinder Singh.

"I was feeling frustrated in the party due to highhanded attitude of the Chief Minister who during the past five years never gave me time to listen to my grievances."

"I have resigned from the Assembly and the primary membership of the party," Khurana, who represents Rajpura in the Vidhan Sabha, told reporters here.

"I have submitted my resignation to Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and the Speaker," said Khurana, flanked by Arun Jaitley, former Union minister and in-charge of BJP's affairs in Punjab.

The MLA, former vice-president of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, alleged that corruption had increased manifold during the Congress rule in the state.

"Several scams, including the Ludhiana city centre scandal, has dented the image of the ruling party in the State," he said.

Welcoming him into the party fold, Jaitley said Khurana would be BJP's star campaigner to expose misdeeds of Congress in the run-up to Assembly polls in the State. -- PTI
