ONGOLE: Telugu Desam Polit Bureau member and Addanki MLA Karanam Balaramakrishna Murthi has accused the government for suspending hydel power generation at Srisailam to divert water to Rayalaseema through Pothireddypadu regulator at the cost of farmers of other regions. Speaking to newspersons here on Tuesday, he said that the government was generating power at Srisailam only for two hours a day to stem criticism. He pointed out that water stood at 867.1 feet at the Srisailam project as against its full reservoir level of 885 feet. But the government was refusing to generate power on the plea that the water would go waste into the sea. He refuted the contention saying that the water could be stored at the Nagarjuna Sagar project, where water stood at 570 feet as against its full reservoir level of 590 feet. He contended that the government was maintaining water level at Srisailam only to benefit Rayalaseema region. Mr. Balaramakrishna Murthi recalled that during the TDP regime, then Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu reviewed power situation every day and ensured power supply for nine hours to farmers. In marked contrast, there was no Minister for power in the Congress Government, which handled power situation in the most inept manner. He criticised the district administration for tardy relief and restoration work in the flood-hit areas.
