NEW DELHI: Delhi Urban Development Minister A.K. Walia on Tuesday issued specific instructions for construction of an underpass at Pusa Road Chowk and an underpass and a flyover on New Rohtak Road to enable smooth flow of traffic between North and Central Delhi. He also directed senior officials of Public Works Department, Central Road Research Institute (CRRI), Delhi Police and Municipal Corporation of Delhi to immediately finalise an action plan to decongest traffic at Pusa Road Chowk and on New Rohtak Road from Liberty Cinema Chowk to Anand Parbat. Stating that Delhi Government would not remain a mute spectator to long traffic jams on these roads as they cause a lot of inconvenience and delay to commuters at large, Dr. Walia directed the concerned officials to come back with a feasible action plan that could be implemented at the earliest to provide relief to the people. Dr. Walia also directed the officials to plan an underpass at T-point near Anand Parbat on new Rohtak Road to facilitate direct flow of traffic to and fro Liberty Cinema to Punjabi Bagh without disruption of traffic turning towards Shakti Nagar, Shastri Nagar and Gulabi Bagh. He further instructed planning of a flyover near Liberty Cinema Chowk to facilitate direct flow of traffic to and from Jhandewalan to Punjabi Bagh without disturbing flow of traffic moving towards Desh Bandhu Gupta Road. Apart from this, Dr. Walia also directed that an underpass be planned at Pusa Road to facilitate smooth and direct flow of traffic to and fro Pusa Road to Shadipur Depot without disturbing flow of traffic coming from Naraina and Shankar Road which would be managed at ground level with the help of the existing rotary. It was pointed out that with this Pusa Road Chowk would become a three level traffic management system with the Metro route on the top as one of the levels. Dr. Walia expressed confidence that new projects would be able to provide relief to large number of people and commuters before commencement of Commonwealth Games in 2010.
