CHENNAI: The "Naada Kovida" title was conferred on Carnatic vocalist Nithyasree Mahadevan by Justice M. Chockalingam of the Madras High Court at the inauguration of the fifth annual music festival of Naadhabrahmam here on Tuesday. Mr. Chockalingam stressed the importance of bhakti and music and explained how they co-existed since ancient times. A shawl, a citation and a gold chain formed part of the award, which was given in recognition of her contribution to Carnatic music. S. Manoharan, managing director of Kancheepuram S.M. Silks, presented a gold chain to the awardee.
