It is a very special season for Rohan

It is indeed a very special music season for young mridangam artiste Rohan Krishnamurthy. Besides accompanying some top-notch artistes on concert platforms, he also gave a special performance at the "Banyan" recently.

Familiar with `community outreach' models in the United States, the 19-year-old decided to do his bit to make sure the art form reached people who did not usually participate in the music festival here.

Mr. Rohan was touched seeing the response he received at the "Banyan" last week. The enthusiastic youngster said he hoped to get involved in more such projects. A resident of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Rohan has been under the tutelage of several gurus, including veteran Mridangist Guruvayur Dorai for the last eight years. He has been performing extensively in the U.S. and India since when he was nine.
