Accused in lecturer Kavita Rani murder arrested by Delhi police

  • No Minister will be spared if found guilty: Mulayam

    NEW DELHI: The Central Delhi police arrested an accused in the lecturer Kavita Rani murder case on Rani Jhansi Road in Paharganj late on Tuesday night.

    On a tip-off, the police laid a trap near Videocon Tower and nabbed Triloki Singh.

    The police said he was an associate of the prime accused, Ravinder Pradhan, and wanted in two other casesin Uttar Pradesh.

    Triloki Singh, 37, was `pradhan' (headman) of Dhanera Kirat in Bulandshahr. His name also found a mention in the threat letters received by the victim.

    Confession

    Two days after the media reported the disappearance of 29-year-oldlecturer's from Meerut in October, Senior Superintendent of Police Navneet Sikhera addressed a press conference on Monday, where Pradhan admitted to having murdered the lecturer.

    Pradhan said that he, along with his accomplice, strangulated Kavita and disposed of the body in a canal in Sanauta in Bulandshahr following a fight over sharing money.

    CBI probe ruled out

    PTI reports from Jhabua (Madhya Pradesh):

    Ruling out a CBI probe in the Kavita Rani murder case, Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav said on Tuesday that no Minister in his Government would be spared if found guilty.

    "The case will not be handed over to the CBI as it will not serve the purpose, but if the involvement of any Minister is proved in the case, he will not be spared," Mr. Singh said.

    Mr. Yadav was speaking to reporters at Bamania in Jhabua district after paying tributes to noted socialist leader Mama Baaleshwar Dayal on his eighth death anniversary.
