Illicit spirit seized

Thiruvananthapuram: The Excise department seized more than 2000 litres of illicit spirit from a lorry near Kazhakuttom late on Tuesday night.

The lorry crew, Prasanth, 26, and Babu, 28, have been arrested in connected with the seizure. Excise Circle Inspector B. Suresh Kumar said the spirit was found concealed in a secret compartment under the platform of the lorry. The crew have been booked on charges of violating the Abkari Act.

The lorry had entered the State through the Walayar border check-post in Palakkad district early on Tuesday. The crew had declared the cargo hold of the vehicle as `empty,' Mr. Kumar said.
