Staff Reporter
Thiruvananthapuram: The city police are investigating a criminal gang in connection with the attack on a couple in Sreekaryam in the early hours of Monday. The gang members, armed with swords and iron rods, had broken into the house of Aji Kumar around 1.50 a.m. on Monday. Aji Kumar, 37 and his wife, Sindhu, 32, were seriously injured in the attack. The gang members also caused damage to three vehicles parked in the compound of the house. The couple had also reported the loss of a gold necklace worn by Ms. Sindhu at the time of the attack. The police said business rivalry was the cause. Mr. Aji Kumar had won the contract for collecting levy from traders hawking their wares at the Sreekaryam market. Several others had made bids for the contract bagged by Aji Kumar. The police have registered a case of causing grievous hurt, trespass, rioting, unlawful assembly and violation of the Arms Act in connection with the incident. So far, nobody has been arrested.
