NEW DELHI: An international drugs module operating from across the border has been smashed by the Special Cell of the Delhi police with the arrest of six alleged drug peddlers, including a Pakistani national and two Nigerians. The police claim to have recovered about 18 kg of "fine quality" heroin valued at Rs.18 crore in the international market. At a Press conference here on Tuesday, Joint Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Karnal Singh said the network was being operated by Zulfikar and Afzal from Lahore in Pakistan and their main conduits were Vinay Kumar and Tejender Singh in Amritsar. Afzal had also developed a distribution network in Delhi through two Nigerians and a local. A team under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Rishi Pal had arrested Vinay and Tejinder near PVR cinema at Vikaspuri this past Friday and allegedly seized about 9 kg of heroin from them. At their instance, one Kalpesh was arrested near Nawada Metro railway station. The two Nigerians, Jack and Kingsley, were arrested at Uttam Nagar. About 7 kg of heroin was seized from their possession. During interrogation, the accused purportedly disclosed that a Pakistani national, Afzal, was staying at Turkman Gate in Delhi and had met Vinay earlier. Acting on the information, Afzal was then arrested near PVR plaza in Connaught Place on Saturday with 2 kg of heroin. "The module procured drugs from a Peshawar-based factory of Bashir Pathan bearing the trade mark "Pakistan Afghanistan Limited". The drugs were then supplied to their conduits in India. The monetary transactions were generally done through hawala," said Mr. Singh, adding that Afzal had earlier visited the Capital on three occasions to strengthen the network The police have seized the passport of Afzal. The two Nigerians had come to India on tourist visa.
