Tirunelveli records two wins

Semifinalists spotted

Precision Cricket Club, Chennai, St. Peter's Cricket Club, Kodaikanal, Majestic Cricket Club and TVS Srichakra Cricket Club from Madurai qualified for the semifinals of the AVEM Trophy State-level Cricket tournament at Madurai on Wednesday.

Sri Renuga advances

Sri Renuga Textile Mills Cricket Club `B' entered the quarterfinals defeating KK Patti Cricket Club by 15 runs in the TDCA-Balu Alagannan Trophy cricket tournament at Theni on Wednesday.

Facile win for Thirumangalam BC

Thirumangalam Basketball Club beat Cauvery Anmal Basketball Club, Vadamadurai 58-30 in the inaugural match of the 13th annual Rtn. G. Sundararajan Mani Vizha Trophy State-level basketball tournament organised by Sax Memorial Basketball Club at Dindigul on Wednesday.

The results: Thirumangalam BC 58 (Balamurugan 27, Sivaram 22) bt Cauvery Ammal BC Vadamadurai 30 (V. Sankar 17); Gandhigram Rural Institute 61 (Hari Sankar 22, Dinesh Kumar 16) bt Silver Jubilee Sports Club, Periakulam 45 (Manickam 14, Rajkumar 12).

Five share lead

Five players, including top seed P. Shyam Nikhil of Madurai, were in the lead with three points each at the end of the third round of the tenth annual Pearl City Trophy State-level open chess tournament at Tuticorin on Wednesday.

Vellore dominates

Vellore dominated Kancheepuram on day one of the three-day match in the under-22 TNCA inter-district cricket tournament at Vellore.

The scores: Vellore 197 in 54 overs (K.B. Arun Karthick 75, Rajinikanth 34, R. Pandiarajan six for 32, Ambrish Rangan three for 52) vs. Kancheepuram 37 in 29 overs (Rajnikanth four for 21, A.B. Harikrishnan three for nine) and 31 for three in 16 overs.
