The police said Aravind of Standard VI was living in Logiah Colony, Saligramam in the Virugambakkam police station limits, with his parents Karthikeyan and Amudha. According to the family members and neighbours, the boy was playing with his friends near his house on Tuesday evening. Around 8 p.m., Aravind was reported missing. The anxious parents informed the Virugambakkam police. A case of kidnap was registered. At around 9 p.m., the parents received a call demanding Rs. 5 lakh as ransom. The caller did not identify himself, but it was a soft male voice. A senior citizen living in the area, who did not want to be named, said he saw a white colour car leaving the place at a great speed, but claimed the yellow number plate was not visible. A police team pursuing the case went to Madhavaram. But around 3 p.m., Aravind's body was found near his house with a cut in the head. One side of the face appeared slightly swollen. Additional Commissioner of Police S R Jangid visited the spot. Another police team left for Kumbakonam, the native place of the family. The boy's father is an Apollo Hospital employee.
