BANGALORE: Former Union Minister Srinivas Prasad on Wednesday said his decision to rejoin the Congress was "unconditional."

Speaking to reporters after visiting the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) office in Bangalore for the first time after becoming a Congressman again, the senior Dalit leader said he did not hanker after any position in the party as he had already held various organisational posts besides serving as a member of parliament for five times. "If the party gives me any responsibility, I will accept it. Even if the party does not give me any responsibility, I will involve myself in the party organisational work," Mr. Prasad, who has worked as KPCC vice-president and general secretary during his earlier stint with the Congress, said.

Mr. Prasad, who represented Chamarajanagar constituency in the Lok Sabha five times, said he would strive with other leaders to help the Congress regain its past glory. He recalled his 18-year association with the party on whose ticket he became MP for the first time. He had quit the Congress eight years ago to protest against a "political conspiracy," although he desisted from elaborating on his remarks.

Mr. Prasad was given a warm reception at the KPCC office by the party workers who burst crackers to express their happiness over his rejoining the party. KPCC President Mallikarjun Kharge expressed confidence that Mr. Prasad's re-entry would help in strengthening the party.

All India Congress Committee general secretary B.K. Hariprasad and a host of party leaders, including the former minister Kagodu Thimmappa, were present on the occasion.
