Bangalore: For children from an orphanage who have probably never had a chance to visit places of interest in the city, it was a fun day out. As many as 60 children, aged below ten, of Anatha Shishu Nivasa in Basavanagudi went on an outing organised by the Coffee Board of India on a "hop-on-hop-off" sightseeing bus accompanied by the board's mascot Coffee Swami. Santa Claus also joined the children in the bus and distributed balloons, toffees, fruits and other goodies while they enthusiastically shook hands with Coffee Swami. "There's a joker in the bus!" exclaimed an excited Mamtha, a second standard student, when she saw the mascot. "It is so much fun," said the kids who were excited on seeing the "open top" sightseeing bus. The children were first taken to the Vishweshwaraiah Museum. It was followed by a tour of the city in the "open top" bus. Later, after a sumptuous lunch, they went for a joy ride in the toy train at Jawahar Bal Bhavan in Cubbon Park. According to the Coffee Board of India, Coffee Swami represents the coffee bean and represents the rich heritage of the popular beverage. The mascot has made appearances in various locations in the city including coffee outlets and educational institutions talking about coffee and its characteristics and giving away coffee goodies. The mascot will promote the India International Coffee Festival 2007, scheduled to be held in Bangalore from February 23 to 25.
