GULBARGA: Kottala Basaveshwara Bharatiya Shikshana Samiti and Hyderabad Karnataka Abviruddi Vibhaga (HKAV), along with Bharath Vikas Sanghatan, will hold a six-day awareness mela, "Belakinadige Mathondu Hejje (one more positive step towards the eternal light)", in Sedam town, from December 30. The objective of the mela is to motivate youth to tackle backwardness in the region and related issues. HKAV chief convener and former president of the State unit of the BJP Basavaraj Patil Sedam told presspersons here on Wednesday said that the main purpose for holding the mela was to ascertain the effectiveness of the organisation's efforts in the past two years in tackling backwardness in the region. Mr. Sedam said that in this period, the vibhaga had conducted more than 100 programmes in different villages to educate farmers on organic farming and the use of bio-pesticides. HKAV had also conducted training workshops for youth on various topics, including self-employment, in about 600 villages in Gulbarga, Bidar, Raichur and Koppal districts. He said more than one lakh delegates from all four districts of the Hyderabad-Karnataka region were expected to participate at the mela. Separate sessions would be held to tackle issues involving children, women and farmers, as well as science and technology and other subjects. Exhibitions would be held on different topics on all six days, he added.
Science and technology
Mr. Sedam said that the first three days of the mela would be devoted to education and science and technology. On the inaugural day, Major and Small Industries Minister Katta Subramanya Naidu will inaugurate an exhibition, "Vishwashakti Bharata". Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa will participate in a convention for rural youth, workers and farmers on January 4 and will release a souvenir, "Abyudhaya", which has been brought out on the occasion. Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy will be chief guest at the valedictory function and will release a special volume, "Ondu Munnotta Ondu Sankalpa".
