KADAPA: Six hundred tanks will be developed in Kadapa district with an outlay of Rs. 48 crores under Andhra Pradesh Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, District Collector M.T. Krishna Babu said on Wednesday. Addressing public representatives at `Panchayathiki Oka Cheruvu' (a tank in each gram panchayat), an awareness meeting, on Badvel market yard premises, he urged sarpanches and MPTC members to shoulder the responsibility for developing the tanks. Clearance of bushes, desilting and repair of tanks and construction of mud bunds would be taken up. Labourers would do 60 per cent of the work and 40 per cent of funds allotted should be used for procurement of material and other costs, he said. He warned against use of machinery in the labour-oriented works.
One tank first
One tank would be initially developed in each gram panchayat and more tanks would be developed subsequently, Mr. Krishna Babu stated. He advised provision of work for three months to labourers. An engineer, a technical assistant and field assistant would oversee tank development work .
