23 panchayats selected to take up development works

Under All Village Anna Renaissance Scheme in Theni district Each panchayat will get Rs.20 lakh, says the Collector, Har Sahay Meena

THENI : A total of 23 panchayats have been selected this year for implementation of All Village Anna Renaissance scheme in the district.

Each panchayat would get Rs.20 lakh for taking up various development works, said the Collector, Har Sahay Meena.

Addressing a special training camp on All Village Anna Renaissance scheme here on Wednesday, he said panchaythats have the power to spend Rs.5 lakh for any development work.

The rest of the amount would be utilised for specific works only.

A sum of Rs.3 lakh to Rs.5 lakh would be used for laying cement roads, Rs.3 lakh for desilting and deepening wells and temple tanks, Rs.25,000 for improving aquaculture, Rs.1 lakh for creating play ground in schools, Rs.1.5 lakh for community play ground and Rs.2 lakh for library. Besides, installation of streetlights, provision of basic amenities and village shandies would also be taken up.

To monitor proper implementation of work, a district-level monitoring committee would be constituted shortly, Mr. Meena said.

Officials from various departments took part.
