Kelkar award for NGO founder

HYDERABAD: The annual Yeshwant Rao Kelkar Award for 2006, carrying a cash prize of Rs.25,000 and a citation was presented to Girish Mahadev Kulkarni of Ahmednagar (Maharashtra) on the third day of the 52nd national conference of the ABVP here on Wednesday.

Dayanand Dongaonkar, secretary-general, Association of Indian Universities, gave away the award to Mr. Kulkarni who as founder of Snehalaya, an NGO, has been working for the rehabilitation of HIV positive persons since 1989. The award was instituted in 1990 at the ABVP national conference held here.

Meanwhile, T. Penchalayya of Kadapa has been elected president of the ABVP State unit here on Tuesday.P.Arunkumar (secretary), Narsing Das, Karindranath, Ratnam, T.Eshwar Kumar (vice-presidents), Lakshmi Reddy, Sridhar, Vijayakumar, Sravanthi, Ramakrishna (joint secretaries), Limbadri (treasurer).
