Illegal lands: Praja Front to undertake survey

Special Correspondent

Asks Government to set up independent panel to identify lands

HYDERABAD: Praja Front, representing 10 organisations, including some political parties, has demanded that the Government constitute an independent commission with statutory powers to identify the Government lands in illegal possession.

Republican Party of India State president Bojja Tarakam told reporters here on Wednesday that the Government's decision to direct the officials to identify the assigned lands in possession of individuals would not yield any result. "How can the officials go against the elected representatives and others who are in possession of assigned lands?" he questioned.

Mr. Tarakam said an independent commission would only be able to bring out the actual extent of lands illegally in possession of individuals. Praja Front, in association with other organisations, would undertake survey in all the districts and identify the lands under illegal occupation.

He said any leader, who possessed assigned lands, was liable for punishment. Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy and former Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu were no exception as they had held assigned lands at one time or the other.

He alleged that the surrender of lands by Dr. Reddy was only an attempt to send signals to others who were in possession of such lands to surrender them. Notwithstanding such voluntary surrender, action should be initiated against all who possessed such lands.
