Bangalore: A flat on Christ Road, Benson Town, belonging to Anif Shivani, owner of H.M. Construction, was burgled on December 21. The police said that miscreants broke into the house through a window on the first floor on Monday. Mr. Shivani and his family had gone to Dubai on a holiday around five days ago. He had reportedly appointed a gorkha to keep a watch over the house. The burglars reportedly took away Rs. 1 crore-worth gold and silver jewellery, including Rs. 1.5 lakh in cash. A complaint has been lodged by Nandakumar, manager of H.M. Constructions. The J.C. Nagar police have detained the gorka for questioning. Investigation is on.
Two commit suicide
Jayalakshmi (23), wife of Basavaraj, committed suicide at her residence in Bhovi Colony, Basaveshwaranagar, on Tuesday night. The police said that she reportedly took the extreme step as she was depressed after an abortion. Divya (25), wife of Nagesh, a resident of Ashoknagar Layout, committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan. The police said she used to suffer from stomach pain, which prompted her to resort to suicide.
Killed in accident
A boy was killed on the spot on Tuesday night at Chikkabanawara when he was by a lorry. The police said that the accident occurred when Guddappa (16), a worker from Haveri, was trying to cross the road. The lorry driver abandoned the vehicle and is now absconding. The Peenya police have registered a case.
Chain snatched
Motorcycle-borne miscreants snatched a gold chain from Rajeshwari, resident of Thimmenahalli, who was walking on Nagarabhavi third cross road on Tuesday. She claimed that the gold chain weighed around 80 grams estimated at Rs. 80,000. A case has been filed with the Basaveshwaranagar police.
Illicit liquor seized
Officials of the Excise Department on Wednesday intercepted a car near Adarsha cinema in Ulsoor after getting information that liquor was being transported illegally in it. The car driver abandoned the car and fled. About 210 litres of liquor was seized. A case has been registered.
Dacoity bid foiled
Five persons were arrested and their plan to commit dacoity was foiled. The police gave the names of the arrested as M. Babu (35), K. Anand (32), R. Purushittam (27), R. Suresh (30) and C. Venkatesh (19). They said that the five had planned to waylay people on the deserted stretch near NIMHANS, Hosur Road. The police have seized lethal weapons, a car and a packet of chilli powder from the arrested. The Audugodi police have registered a case.
Three arrested
Abdul Ameen (33) was arrested by the Central Crime Branch police on Tuesday for selling fake beedis. The police have seized 115 bundles estimated at Rs. 40,000 from the arrested. The accused was trying to sell the beedis at a store in Rajendranagar Slum, 5th Cross, 80th Main, Audugodi. The shopkeeper, who grew suspicious, called the representative of S.K. Beedi, Channapatna, to verify if the beedis were manufactured by them. The company representative reportedly identified the beedis as fake and informed the police.
