ERODE: `Six plus one plus 22.' This is what a motorist encounters on the Housing Unit Road at Manickampalayam. The first number refers to the number of potholes ahead of Amman Matriculation School, the `one' refers to the lone speed breaker, and 22 is the number of small craters after crossing the school.
Quick succession
A rider encounters all this continuously on a stretch of the road, which is less than 200 metres. In such quick succession, the road, it appears, has disappeared and one feels like he is driving on a bumpy, dirt track. Residents say such has been the condition of the road for long.
Same condition
"New councillors and elected representatives come and go but the condition remains the same," resident Samy says wryly.
Deep dents
The dents on the road are deep, riding on which gives the experience of sitting on a see-saw. Loose stones only add to the problem. The residents say they want the Periyasemur Municipal Council to re-lay the road on a war footing. The councillor of Ward Seven, Subramaniam, could not be contacted.
