This Day That Age
Prime Minister Nehru had a 80-minute talk with West German Chancellor Adenauer at the Dusseldorf airport on December 27. In a statement made after the talks, Mr. Nehru said: "I wish to say that I am very grateful to the Federal Chancellor for coming down here and giving me the opportunity of having a talk with him and of discussing with him various important developments of the present day in the world, in the Middle East, Central Europe and elsewhere. Five months ago, I had the privilege of meeting him. Since then many things have happened and we had occasion to discuss new developments and I have greatly profited by these talks. I am thankful to him for them." Dr. Adenauer, who spoke next, was almost drowned by the whirring of newsreel cameras. He said, "I can only add that I am happy we have found our views to be in agreement and I am happy to be able to say that the whole talks took place in a good and friendly atmosphere. It would be a good thing if we are able to exchange opinions again in the future." Mr. Nehru then commented: "I shall be very happy to have opportunities to exchange views with the Federal Chancellor from time to time." A crowd of about 2,000 Germans waved a welcome to Mr. Nehru as he arrived in Dusseldorf.
