Madras Boat Club wins Hoogly Cup

Chennai: The Madras Boat Club won the overall men's championship, for the `Hoogly Cup', in the ARAE Regatta at the Karachi Boat Club recently.

Claiming the trophy after 33 years, the club also clinched the Adyar Cup, the overall trophy for women.

The races were held under the standardised two-lane repechage format over a length of 1000 metres. "This is one of the most prestigious events for any rowing club," said Shakuntala Chanda, Club Captain, on the `Hoogly Cup'. — Sports Reporter
