SEOUL: South Korean Foreign Minister Song Min-soon said on Thursday that there was no alternative to the six-party talks to resolve the Democratic People's Republic of Korea nuclear issue. ``The six-party process has more strengths than weak points, and there is no alternative to replace it.'' Mr. Song said last week's talks in Beijing last week were useful for all the parties . Though the parties failed to reach a concrete compromise, they had in-depth discussions on the initial steps to implementing the September 19 joint statement, in which the DPRK had promised to abandon the nuclear programme in exchange for security guarantees and economic assistance, he said.
