Rachita eyes a triple

BANGALORE: Rachita Sarda blew away Shruthi Ashok 6-0, 6-0 to win the girls' under-14 singles title in the Mahila Seva Samaja AITA Talent Series tennis championship at the club courts here on Thursday.

Earlier in the morning, Rachita also entered the girls' under-16 singles final by making short work of her Karnataka team-mate Karamjit Kaur 6-2, 6-2 in the girls' under-16 singles semifinals.

A victory in Friday's under-16 singles final over Gurmeet Kaur, would fetch Rachita a triple crown as she has already won the girls' under-16 doubles title partnering M.P. Nitha.

The second seeded Rashien Samuel beat the top seed Sharan Patil 6-2, 6-2 to bag the boys' under-14 singles title while eighth seed P. Nitesh, who upset the top seed H.G. Prajwal on Wednesday, continued his good run and knocked out the fifth seed Vinod Gowda to set up a title clash with S. Kamal in the boys' under-16 singles final. Kamal accounted for V. Pranav 6-3, 6-1 in the other semifinals.

Pranav and Kamal won the boys' under-16 doubles title with a 7-5,5-7,7-6 (7-3) victory over H.G. Prajwal and Vinod Gowda.

Under-16: Semifinals: Rachita Sarda bt Karamjit Kaur 6-2,6-2; Gurmeet Kaur bt M.P.Nitha 6-4,6-2.

Boys: Doubles: Under-16: Final: Pranav & S. Kamal bt H.G. Prajwal & Vinod Gowda 7-5, 5-7, 7-6(7-3).
