Parveen sets new record

Mumbai : Parveen Ram of Rajasthan secured her second gold as she created a new meet record in the Discus throw event of the 52nd National schools athletic meet at the Priyadarshini Park on Thursday.

Parveen's throw of 44.44m eclipsed the previous mark of 43.78m held by Harvant Kaur of Punjab.

The results (winners only): Boys (under-19): 100m: Debashish Das (WB) 11.0; 400m: Jaspal Singh (Raj) 49.2; 5000m: Sharlin Joseph (Ker) 15.17.2; Discus: Sharad Choudhary (UP) 46.79; Pole vault: K. Rajesh (TN) 4.20;

Boys under-17: 100m: Yashovardhan (UP) 11.0; 400m: Renju Ramanan (Ker) 49.9; Hammer throw: Vinay Singh (Cht) 64.75.

Girls (under-19): 100m: Neetu Rajan (Ker) 12.36; 400m: Tintu Luka (Ker) 55.5; 5000m: Shameena Jabbar (Ker) 17.21.8; Long jump: Neethu Mathew (Ker) 5.59; Discus: Parveen Ram (Raj) 44.44m (NMR).

Girls (under-17): 100m: Shilpa C (Ker) 12.4; 400m: Indulekha E.M. (Ker) 56.3.
