Zainab in under-14 final

HYDERABAD : Zainab Ali Sajjad defeated Sumalya Hariharan 7-6(4), 6-0 in the girls' under-14 semifinals of the Wilson-AITA Talent Series sub-junior tennis tournament here on Thursday.

The results:

Boys: Under-12: Semifinals: S.M. Abdullah bt Ronak Jawahar 3-6, 6-3, 6-4; Ansu Kumar Bhuyan bt B. Supreeth 6-0, 7-6(3). Doubles: Y. Akhil Reddy & B. Supreeth bt Rohit Sarwate & B. Vijay 6-4, 6-1; Y. Prithvihaas & G. Anish bt R. Rishabh Kumar & M.Nishant 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Under-14: Surya Pavan bt S.M. Abdullah 6-4, 6-2; Y. Sriman bt Ansu Kumar Bhuyan 7-6(3), 7-6(6). Doubles: Surya Pavan & Y. Sriman bt Rohit Sarwate & Ansu Kumar Bhuyan 6-1, 6-2; Y. Akhil Reddy & B. Supreeth bt Ronak Jawahar & Eswar Shravan 7-5, 6-2.

Girls: Under-12: Semifinals: Surya Tejaswini bt G. Urmila 6-0, 6-1; Sheikh Amreen bt Vignatha Reddy 6-4, 6-3. Doubles: Surya Tejaswini & Vennela bt Shambavi Dixit & Nayanika Reddy 6-0, 6-2.

Under-14: Surya Tejaswini bt Trishali Reddy 6-1, 6-2; Zainab Ali Sajjad bt Sumalya Hariharan 7-6(4), 6-0. Doubles: Surya Tejaswini & Nikitha Telkar bt Shambhavi Dixit & Nayanika Reddy 6-0, 6-2.

BHEL teams win

BHEL (R & D) downed a fighting Tecumseh XI 4-3 in the fourth Inter-institutional hockey tournament at BHEL Community Centre Grounds near here.

Naresh Chand (2) and Suraj Kumar (1) scored for Tecumseh. BHEL fought back and equalised through Shivakumar (2) and L. Janak Kumar (1). Later BHEL's Sashikanth converted a penalty-stroke.

In another match, BHEL (Ramachandrapuram) scored a big 8-3 win against NFC with Ravinder scoring a hat-trick and Samad striking thrice. Laxman and Om Prakash were the other scorers. For the loser, John Bosco had a hat-trick.

Big win for E. Godavari

East Godavari defeated Chittoor 24-8 in the kabaddi league match of the AP Physical Education Teachers sports meet being simultaneously along with the State-level seminar at St. Patrick's High School here.

Other results:

Kabaddi: Kurnool bt Adilabad 32-14. Basketball: East Godavari bt Krishna 37-27. Football: Adilabad bt Anantapur 1-0; East Godavari bt Ranga Reddy 1-0. Volleyball: Guntur bt Chittoor 25-23, 25-20; Ranga Reddy bt Kurnool 25-20, 25-18; Krishna bt Kadapa 25-22, 10-25, 15-13.

Savita to lead

Savita Nirala will lead Hyderabad in the All India women's knock-out cricket tournament to be held in Ahmedabad from January 5 to 11.
