HYDERABAD: City-based Yaaganti Seeds Private Limited (YSPL) has signed an MoU with Vikram Seeds Limited (VSL) of Ahmedabad to market Bt cottonseed in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.

Its managing director Y. Venkateswarulu told reporters here on Thursday that his company would sell one lakh Vikram 5 Bt cottonseed packets in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka in 2007 at Rs. 750 for each 450 gram packet. In addition, farmers would be given 120-gram packet of non-Bt cottonseed.

The company would produce the seeds using Monsanto's Bt technology, which had been approved by the Genetic Engineering Approval Committee (GEAC). Mr. Venkateswarulu said Vikram 5 BT was suitable to the State's climate and performed well at the GEAC . This year, Vikram 5 Bt seed packets were marketed in Karimnagar, Warangal, Khammam, Adilabad and Guntur districts.

VSL managing director Babubhai Patel said his company hoped to reach a turnover of Rs. 100 crore by 2007.
