ANANTAPUR: Lack of a declared cultural policy was exposing the hollowness of the ruling parties in the State for the last 60 years, leaders of Janasahiti, a left wing literary organisation, observed here on Thursday. Talking to newspersons here, its State president B. Suryasagar, secretariat member Divikumar and others explained that the cultural policy being followed by successive governments had been the combination of local feudalistic culture and foreign imperialistic culture being imposed on society. Continuation of courses on `Vaasthu' and astrology in universities was also part of the undeclared cultural policy of the Government, they alleged. Allowing half-naked dances in discotheque, bars and clubs, turning a blind eye on the organised prostitution in the name of development of tourism, depiction of women as sex symbols in television serials and feature films were also part of the feudalistic and imperialistic cultural policy, they said. Continuing discrimination of Dalits, ban on entry into temples, untouchability and caste system were also part of the undeclared cultural policy of the government, they stated. Comparing the present education system with the two-tumbler system in villages, they alleged that while government schools were for the poor and downtrodden, residential schools were available for the rich and middle class. Governments were not making people to understand the adverse impacts of imperialistic globalisation.
