Couple found dead near Singur
|
Their land was acquired for Tata project
|
Singur:
An old couple whose land had been acquired for the Tata Motors' small car project here were on Thursday found dead in their home, police said.
The bodies of Tinkari Dey and his wife Maya Dey, were recovered from their house in Dolouigachha village. The police suspect it could have been a case of suicide. The couple owned more than an acre at Singherbheri mouza which falls under the 997 acres acquired by the State for the project.
The Jami Bikreta Committee (land vendors committee) convenor, Dibakar Das, said the couple had been issued a cheque against their land during the process of acquisition.
Mr. Das said Tinkari Dey had sold his land to the Government for Rs. 4.22 lakh.
The police said neighbours who peeped in through the grill door at the entrance saw the bodies lying on the floor with electric wire round their necks and alerted them. PTI
