Red Cross Society elections

BANGALORE: The annual general body meeting of the Karnataka branch of the Indian Red Cross Society will be held here on January 21.

Society general secretary N.G. Narayana told presspersons here on Thursday that election of nine members to the managing committee of the society would be held after the general body meeting.

Minister for Health and Family Welfare R. Ashok, who is chairman of the society's State unit, would preside over the meeting to be held at KAS Officers' Research and Training Centre on Bhagwan Mahaveer Road, he said.

Factories cut price for sugarcane

Bidar: Small sugar factories in Bidar have reduced by 10 per cent the price they pay to farmers for the sugarcane purchased.

It was decided at a meeting that sugarcane would be bought at Rs. 900 a tonne instead of Rs. 1,000 a tonne announced earlier.

This was because of the fall in the price of sugar in the wholesale market, management representatives said. President of the district small sugar factories association S.B. Patil Gulbarga chaired the meeting, according to a release. — Staff Correspondent

Suvarna Karnataka diary released

BANGALORE: Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa and Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Basavaraj Horatti on Thursday released a Suvarna Karnataka diary and a calendar brought out by the Government.

The diary contains telephone numbers of MPs of the State, MLAs, offices of deputy commissioners, chief executive officers of zilla panchayats and superintendents of police. — Special Correspondent

9 students chosen

for INMO

Udupi: Nine students undergoing `IIT-JEE' training at the Manipal Institute of Computer Education (MICE) in Udupi are among the 31 selected from the State in the Karnataka Regional Mathematical Olympiad (KRMO) to write the Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO) in February next year. — Staff Correspondent
