PRESSURE TACTIC: TDP leaders and activists staging a dharna in front of CPDCL office at Anantapur on Thursday, demanding nine-hour power supply to farm sector.
ANANTAPUR: Telugu Desam Party and Communist Party of India staged protests, separately, in different parts of the district on Thursday against erratic power supply to farm and domestic sectors. Activists of the two parties were also arrested by the police when they allegedly tried to enter the installations of AP Transco by gate crashing. In Hindupur, TDP activists led by legislator P. Ranganayakulu staged a dharna in front of the Divisional Engineer's office of CPDCL and staged `rasta-roko' demanding a nine-hour power supply to farm sector. The police arrested about 30 CPI activists led by deputy district secretary of the party C. Jaffer when they tried to barge into the ADE's office there. The police resorted to mild lathicharge.
Traffic disrupted
Traffic on the NH-205 was disrupted for two hours in Kadiri when TDP activists staged a `rasta-roko' in front of the substation. In Chittoor district, the TDP activists along, with the people's representatives staged a dharna and `rasta-roko' at sub-stations in Chittoor division. At Kanipakam substation, local leaders -- Bhaskar Naidu and Venugopal Naidu -- along with TDP workers, staged a `rasta-roko' disrupting the traffic causing hard ships to pilgrims visiting the temple In Tirupati, the farmers held angry demonstrations in front of the Southern Discom and at the electricity revenue office here. The CPI also held a `rasta-roko' near Perur. The AP Rythu Sangham leaders held similar demonstrations at Cherlopalli on the Tirupati-Chittoor highway and warned that the Government that it also would meet the same fate as the TDP Government. . Kurnool Special Correspondent writes: Supporters of TDP and Left parties stormed the office of Superintending Engineer of APCPDCL here. While the CPI men staged a demonstration separately, TDP and CPI(M) protested together.
