Free supply of dhotis, saris for Pongal

CHENNAI: About 5.7 lakh people in Chennai with a monthly income of Rs. 2,000 or less will receive free dhotis and saris for Pongal.

The government will distribute the new clothes through fair price shops starting January 1, a release from the Chennai Collectorate said on Thursday. People can present their ration cards and collect the clothes on specified dates, which would be publicised through posters put up at the fair price shops.

Those who are unable to collect the dhotis and saris on the specified date may approach the fair price shops the next day. They may also approach the Tahsildar's office in case they are unable to collect the clothes from the shops.
