New Delhi
NEW DELHI: Delhi will be under the watchful gaze of the police as it ushers in the New Year this weekend with extra personnel patrolling the streets to check any brash behaviour. More policemen on patrol duty, random frisking of visitors at prominent places, barricaded roads, regulated vehicular movement -- the Capital's police have drawn out elaborate plans for this New Year weekend. Security has been stepped up across the Capital to avoid any untoward incident and visitors to crowded places and even some upmarket hotels are being frisked and vehicular movement monitored closely. Metal detectors have been put up at all major markets, shopping malls, theatres and partying places and people entering such places are frisked thoroughly. Special attention is given to border areas of Delhi during this week as police expect more people from the National Capital Region coming to the capital.
Bad characters
History sheeters and bad characters of all localities have been kept under watch, a senior police official said. Special attention is being given to Connaught Place, a popular destination with new year revellers. Vehicluar movement will be restricted and a large number of police personnel, equipped with alcometers and breathalysers, will be deployed to maintain law and order. ``To tackle the anticipated rush in Connaught Place, we will put curbs on the vehicular movement for a certain timing in the evening,'' Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi district) Anand Mohan said.- PTI
