This Day That Age
When the country goes to the polls in about two months, the people will have to elect 500 representatives to the Lok Sabha and 3,102 to the State Assemblies. Copies of the order delimiting the country into constituencies for the purpose of the elections have been sent to the Government of India and the State Governments, according to an official press release in New Delhi on December 28. The Delimitation of Parliamentary and Assembly Constituencies Order, 1956, has been made by the Delimitation Commission consequent to the reorganisation of States. Copies of the order were also laid on the table of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. The first schedule to the order sets out the territorial constituencies into which the States (other than Jammu and Kashmir) and the Union Territories of Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Manipur and Tripura have been divided for the purpose of elections to the Lok Sabha, and the second schedule relates to the territorial constituencies into which the States (other than Jammu and Kashmir) have been divided for the elections to the State Assemblies.
