dated December 30, 1956: Encouragement to dance

Inaugurating the 10th South Indian Natyakala Conference at the Museum Theatre, Madras, Mr. A.J. John, Governor of Madras, said classical dances like Bharatanatyam and Kathakali were precious cultural heritages and it should be their endeavour to spread a true knowledge and appreciation of the art among the people. Any genuine work of art had an aesthetic value and it reached the consciousness of the spectators and listeners even if they did not have technical knowledge of it. He praised the work done by the Institute of Fine Arts. Mr. E. Krishna Aiyar, presiding over the conference, pleaded for the establishment of a central college of dance.
